Our first match of the
year is not a field target match. This event requires the participant
to shoot 30 1” frozen ice spheres (15 shots pistol, 15 shots rifle).
Each participant brings a food dish for a mid-winter airgun
celebration. This is a fun event not to be missed! |
| Sunday, April 13th – Wimp Vermin Field Target |
Each year in April,
WLOPA hosts a field target match specifically designed for low powered
airguns. The only restriction on this event is that your gun must be
.22 caliber or less, and have a muzzle velocity of less than 750 feet
per second. We always have great prizes at this event! |

The airgun program at WLOPA is dedicated to promoting both
airgun competitive and fun airgun shooting events. Located just outside of
Waterbury, CT, WLOPA hosts a variety of shooting events that are designed for
the beginning shooter as well as the advanced airgun competitor. The
airgun events are open to all persons. Individuals interested in trying
out airgun shooting who do not have airgun equipment are especially welcome at
WLOPA airgun shoots as extra airguns are always available.
At WLOPA, the airgun program consists of several types of
competition. On a monthly basis, throughout the year, we offer
NRA and
IHMSA approved metallic silhouette matches.
Also, on a monthly basis through the spring, summer, and fall months, we offer AAFTA rifle and
field target events that are conducted on WLOPA's unique airgun range that
provides guaranteed success for the beginning shooter as well as extreme
challenge for the advanced airgun competitor.
Att various times throughout the year, we conduct a
variety of fun shoots that are purely designed to celebrate the world of airgunning and all it has to offer. The annual
Blue Balls shoot has
become a New England classic, and our 'You'll shoot your eye out Red Ryder
Turkey shoot' has received wide recognition as THE EVENT in BB-gun shooting.
Also, the EGG shoots have become a local favorite with many airgun shooters and
special awards are given for the top performing egg hunters.
In the spring, our field target course is full of primitive fiddler ferns and
skunk cabbage. So we make the best of it and host our annual Jurassic FT
shoot.
The WLOPA organization hosts a variety of events including
ATA
trap and skeet shooting competition. However, the airgun range is
dedicated to airgun shooting. The range is located in a partially wooded
section of the WLOPA compound and serves dual-purpose for both field target and
silhouette events. because of the unique terrain, the WLOPA field target
course offers a lot of opportunity for challenging airgun shoooting.
