USFT 2006 Side Shows

In addition to the AAFTA raffle, we're going to do a few extra things at the 2006 Nationals to help that organization raise money. As the shooting year progresses at WLOPA, we occasionally run a few fun matches and events to relieve the extreme stress of competitive shooting (yeah the FT pretzel position hurts a lot!). So check here occasionally as you'll get an opportunity to see what additional fun shooting events will be available before and after the Match proper.

Lewis and Clark Air Rifle Display and Demo

This is truly exciting!  The only existing copy of the Air Rifle now thought to be the one that Lewis and Clark used on their expedition will be at the 2006 Nationals along with the gunsmith who produced it by painstakingly reproducing each part in the original rifle.... Here is Billy Lo's story about how this came about along with some pictures.....

I would like to announce a very wonderful treat for all competitors at next year's Nationals.  We will be having a very special visitor presenting his award winning Lewis and Clark display which includes the history of the Girandoni air rifle (copy) that is now considered to be the actual rifle carried by the Corps of Discovery along with the "short rifle" used on the expedition.  Both rifles on display are functional museum quality reproductions and hand built by Master Gunsmith and Historian Mr. Ernie Cowan.  Mr. Cowan will be doing a demonstration and most likely some lucky shooters will be able to get behind the trigger of the Girandoni air rifle.  We thank him greatly for his generosity and time.

Times of demonstration to be worked out by the MD & Mr. Cowan but I felt it was important to let everyone know just one of the great things next year's Nationals will offer the 2006 Nationals field target competitor at WLOPA.

The opportunity to examine and to be able to see the rifle work and even shoot it will be worth the trip for many.  I know it was worth the 500 mile round trip I took just the other day.  What a treat and what a great shooting rifle, wish I could use it in competition because it is very accurate and very fast to load. In the meanwhile I am sewing a bullseye target to the back of my shooting jacket till the last day of next year's nationals!  :-)

Metallic Silhouette FT

The Silhouette shoot will be a 40 shot course to NRA standards conducted by an NRA official.  Participants can shoot the match any time during the sight in periods or after the daily competition.   Cost is $5 per 40 shots.  Each time you go through the course, you get one raffle ticket for 1/3rd of the total entry fees..... The high score automatically gets 1/3rd of the entry fees, and the remaining 1/3rd goes to AAFTA.
